Step-by-Step Guide for Dematting a Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers have long, beautiful coats that need special care. Sometimes, their fur can get tangled and knotted, which is not comfortable for the dog. Here are steps on how to remove the tangles from your dog’s fur.

Step 1: Get the things you need
Before you start, make sure you have a slicker brush, a metal comb, dematting spray, and grooming scissors. Be sure to use good tools!

Step 2: Start with the spray
Spray the mats with dematting spray. This will make the tangles softer and easier to remove.

Step 3: Use the slicker brush
Use the slicker brush to gently brush your dog’s hair and remove any loose hair.

Step 4: Use the metal comb
Then, use the metal comb to work on any remaining tangles. Be gentle so you don’t hurt your dog.

Step 5: Trim the mats
If there are tangles that you can’t comb out, carefully trim them with the grooming scissors. Be very careful not to cut your dog’s skin!

Step 6: Brush some more
Finally, brush your dog’s coat again now that all the tangles are gone. This will keep their hair smooth and healthy.

If you brush your dog’s coat a few times a week, you can stop tangles before they start. If your dog’s tangles are too thick, ask a professional for help. They can use special products to help keep the tangles away. And don’t use your hair products on your dog; use products made just for dogs!
